Block Blast strategy
Which Block Blast piece should you place first?
Test the piece with the fewest useful placements, but check whether another piece must clear its space first. In this practice board, neither long piece fits until the single square clears the top row.

Compare all three pieces
The top row has one gap; the remaining rows alternate occupied and empty cells. There is no horizontal run of three or five empty cells, so neither long piece has a legal first move.
Open the row
Place the single square in row 1, column 1. The top row becomes full and clears. It now has eight empty cells, enough for both the three-cell and five-cell pieces.
Replay before copying
Open the example and find a sequence. Highlight each placement before applying it to the game. The row and column labels start at 1. If your real board differs, enter it instead of following the practice board.
Avoid an absolute rule
“Small pieces first” is not a general solution. Another board may require the largest piece first. The point is to compare the entire visible tray and the space each move creates.
